LaBelle is a small city on the Caloosahatchee River, and that is the point. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates 5,754 residents as of July 1, 2025, up from 4,966 in the 2020 Census. Hendry County around it is sparse: a University of Florida GeoPlan report using the 2020–2024 American Community Survey puts the county at about 0.06 residents per acre. Our new homes in LaBelle sit on quarter-acre lots with no HOA, with single-family prices from $316,900.
That combination — a small city, a river, a real yard, and no association fee — is what buyers mean when they say they want less noise. It is not a cabin with no neighbors. It is a county seat where the drive to work already averages 35.3 minutes (Census, workers 16 and older, 2020–2024).

What is LaBelle actually like?
LaBelle is the county seat of Hendry County, on the south side of the Caloosahatchee. The river is the outdoor life the city is known for: fishing and boating are on our LaBelle community page because residents use that water, not because a brochure invented a marina.
The quiet is easier to see in the numbers than in an adjective.

A quarter acre is 10,890 square feet. That is a yard, not a ranch. People leaving a zero-lot-line house or a high-rise feel the difference. People leaving a farm will not.
The Census median value of all owner-occupied homes in the city was $204,400 in 2020–2024. Our new houses start higher because they are new construction, not because the Census number is the price of a Langdon. Use our model page for the house you would actually buy.
Who this fits, inside Florida and outside it
Already in Florida. Coastal Lee, Collier, Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach are busier and usually more expensive for a new detached house. LaBelle trades the beach for river, yard, and a published price. If you already have a Florida homestead, the assessment difference can sometimes move with you. That rule is Save Our Homes portability, and the county property appraiser decides it.
Coming from another state. The same house is the quiet version of the tax story. Florida does not tax personal income. The property-tax comparison with New Jersey, Illinois, New York, and Texas is in this guide. California is the exception on property tax. Insurance still has to be quoted. A small city does not make wind coverage cheap.
What you give up
Quiet has a cost, and it is mostly time and services.
- The average commute is already 35 minutes. A job in Fort Myers or on the coast can be longer on a bad day. We will not call that efficient.
- Shops, hospitals, and restaurants are the set a city of about 6,000 people supports, plus what you drive to.
- Lehigh Acres is the other choice when you want Lee County and a larger town. It is not quieter in the same way. Read Lehigh Acres for a new home near Fort Myers.
How to get into the house
Buy at the published price, or move in through rent-to-own with $0 down and purchase later. Homestead and the November 4% tax discount start after you own the home, not on a rent-to-own move-in. The full owner checklist is here.
Frequently asked questions
Is LaBelle rural or a suburb of Fort Myers?
It is its own city, the seat of Hendry County, on the river. People commute toward Lee County. The Census commute average is 35.3 minutes. Calling it a Fort Myers suburb hides the county line and the reason people pick it.
Are the lots an acre?
Our LaBelle homes are on quarter-acre lots. Hendry County as a whole is much more open than the city. Do not mix the county density with the lot behind the house.
Is there an HOA?
Not on our LaBelle homes. Lehigh Acres can be different, neighborhood by neighborhood.
